The Whistler Writers Society, which has over 150 members, promotes the literary arts, provides a forum for local writers to develop their craft within the community, and sponsored literary events, including the annual Whistler Writers Festival , the Whistler Writer in Residence Program and the Authors in School Program.
Canadian authors are invited to submit their self-published fiction and non-fiction books for the 2017 awards. WWS launched the Whistler Independent Book Awards in 2016 to support self-publishing authors and recognize excellence in Canadian independent publishing.
Festival of the Book – Fort Langley, BC
Established in 2014, the Fort Langley Festival of the Book is a celebration of local independent authors, sponsored by the Langley Writers’ Guild and Vivalogue Publishing. This family event and book fair showcases books and writing and the people who make them possible.
Authors wishing to participate in the 2017 Festival on July 1 may register now for the event.
Tidewater & Raindance Book Festivals
The first book festival exclusively for independent authors was held in Richmond, BC, in 2013. The Raindance Book Festival was sponsored by Vivalogue Publishing and Black Bond Books. This was followed in 2014 by the Tidewater Festival, held in Nanaimo, BC.
